Situated along the storefront corridor in Cooper Union’s historic Foundation Building, Model Behavior featured dozens of experiments that explored the peripheries and questioned assumptions around architectural model-making.

Anyone Corporation, who organized and curated the exhibition, investigated how models shape contemporary culture by projecting and eliciting social behavior. The models themselves, by a range of authors including Gonzalo Fonseca, Ekow Nimako, Thomas Demand, First Office, Ensemble, Sean Canty and many others, looked at everything from formal arrangements to weather analyses through diverse media.

To bring together the broad range of work we created a series of modular triangulated plinths that could be grouped together to form larger surfaces or staged individually as floating pixels in the gallery. They vary in height, creating a diverse landscape of stuff attaching itself to and dislodging from the sides of the corridor to produce eddies and flows in the path adjacent to the sidewalk. The exhibition models different ways of moving, looking, and engaging the works through simple spatial building blocks.
