Opening the doors to a revived public gallery at the base of the iconic, Gordon Bunshaft-designed 9W57 building.
In 2023, the Soloviev Foundation re-opened the doors to its ground-floor gallery, made to exhibit the foundation’s extensive collection including works by Alberto Giacometti, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Henry Moore, and many others. We were asked to give new life to the gallery, and to house the offices of its staff in the same space. A series of interventions give a new sense of organization and flow, producing both a sense of connection to the sidewalk beyond and a sense of calm in the gallery’s interior.
We have worked on the development of the longer-term vision of the gallery in part through its exhibitions. Having designed each show since the gallery’s reopening–including Between Distance and Desire: African Diasporic Perspectives (2025), something you cannot hold (2024) and Selections from the Soloviev Foundation Gallery (2023)--we have overseen incremental transformations that have brought new life to the idiosyncratic and compelling space.
