Tomás Saraceno: Particular Matters
2022
The Shed, New York City
Exhibition Design Concept
12,000 SF
Curator: Emma Enderby
Photography: Nicholas Knight
We advised on the design of Tomas Saraceno’s retrospective, organizing new and past works into a sequence of varied spaces—from translucent scrims to enclosed chambers—culminating in a major commission in the Shed’s McCourt Hall .
The show comprised a series of previously exhibited works alongside new commissions, all with a focus on space, environment, and air. The exhibition design organized the content into a series of discrete spaces, separated by partitions ranging from diaphanous and translucent scrims to hard walls that dampened light and sound. Three large galleries were counterbalanced by a series of smaller rooms to give visitors a varied experience from collective to introspective to intimate viewing. The east side of the plan featured a changing room and meditation chamber, a transition to a large newly commissioned work in the Shed’s McCourt Hall.
