Yoko Ono
2025Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago
Arts / Institutional (Completed)
For this survey of Yoko Ono’s prolific career, we worked with the curators at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to balance artifacts, key works, and a series of live performances and experiences.
Parts of the gallery were deliberately left blank and others dense with information and content, inviting visitors to look, read, and most importantly to engage–to fill those blank areas with activity and activation.
Throughout the vaulted galleries we created a clear counterclockwise path interrupted by two volumes: one a curtain hanging from the ceiling to demarcate a performance area, the other an enclosed ‘listening room’ in which visitors could experience Ono’s discography. In these two instances, defined space stood apart from the open and flowing circulation path, providing both a moment of relief and consideration in the context of a longer narrative.
