Time Fears the Pyramids. An installation for the exhibition Tomorrows at the Onassis Center in Athens, Greece, in which together with Farzin Lotfi-Jam we looked at how technology could be used to resist time.

For a restaurant design commission on the Upper West Side, we documented 600+ existing ceiling tiles that were painted in the 1970s by a renowned Greek artist, Yanni Posnakoff.

Canyon transforms over 40,000 square feet of previously unoccupied commercial space into a cultural institution for time-based media, performance, and sound.
Originally envisioned as part of a large-scale food hall, the site was left vacant after pandemic-era market shifts. Rather than erasing its history, the project embraces the raw material character of the space, preserving its layered identity while introducing light-touch interventions that enable contemporary cultural programming.

In collaboration with the institution’s founding leadership, we developed a design that supports openness, adaptability, and civic life. The approach minimizes demolition waste over time through the use of loose-fit assemblies and soft architectural systems. Existing concrete structures, mirrored bridges, and industrial details are retained and activated through flexible programming that accommodates exhibitions, performances, screenings, and gatherings all anchored by a sixty-foot atrium.

Canyon cultivates a new kind of civic space: welcoming, informal, and deeply public. The design prioritizes comfort and accessibility, creating galleries that feel more like living rooms than formal exhibition halls and encouraging audiences to linger, participate, and return. Through adaptive reuse, material care, and minimal intervention, the project offers a low-impact model for cultural institution building—one that reflects on the history of cultural production while fostering dialogue, education, and community connection.

This project reimagines the Jewish Museum’s Permanent Collection Galleries and Teaching and Learning Center, reshaping both the visitor experience and educational engagement with the historic collection of the first institution of its kind in the United States.&#38;nbsp;
The design transforms the circulation through the galleries, creating a cohesive and accessible narrative across diverse artifacts. A new system of thickened walls incorporates niches, apertures, and seating areas, framing moments of close engagement while creating more open, uninterrupted exhibition spaces. Central display structures are designed to integrate and conceal existing structural columns, establishing expansive gallery rooms previously broken up into confusing fragments.


The galleries connect seamlessly to a Teaching and Learning Center that uses collection artifacts as anchors for cultural dialogue, hands-on educational programming, and community events. A tactile “touch wall” allows visitors to physically engage with select objects, broadening accessibility and interaction across a wide range of audiences.


The design fosters both individual reflection and collective participation, providing spaces for quiet, intimate encounters alongside larger gathering areas for group learning and discussion. This project demonstrates how architectural design can catalyze deeper connections between cultural institutions and their public, transforming traditional exhibition spaces into dynamic civic environments that center education, dialogue, and accessibility.

This renovated apartment for a New York–based fashion designer transformed an existing loft by adding a new mezzanine structure to reorganize the living space and introduce a new material vocabulary to tie old into new.The mezzanine jogs to produce two taller spaces and two shorter spaces over the two levels in order to maximize efficiency and give hierarchy to the living area. The new build-out works with the existing structure (two massive concrete columns) to create a conversation with the found conditions.
The design combines unfinished rough materials (exposed steel, raw plywood, expanded mesh screens) with restrained blocks of color (a green-lacquered kitchen island, bright copper pipes) to produce something clean, light, and unprecious. The volume of the new living area, while present and sturdy in its form, is carved and shifted to bring light from the front windows of the unit through to the back, paradoxically making something light out of something solid.General Contractor: CreateNYCFabrication: PropylaeaPhotography: Michael Vahrenwald/Esto

A collection of small community rooms under a large roof, designed for and alongside the members of the Garden by the Bay in Edgemere, Queens.This structure represents the first completed iteration of our TestBeds initiative, which looks to reuse architectural mockups as public infrastructure. In this case, a fragment of the facade of 30 Warren, a recently completed condominium in Tribeca, which now anchors a shade structure in the garden.

Each room differs in size, orientation and lighting conditions that the gardeners imagine using in several ways over the seasons—from growing seeds to hosting puppet shows, arranging weekly market stalls and storing tools, or simply taking a break from the sun which we’ve learned can be quite harsh in the heat of the summer. Building off the legacy of community garden structures at large, and casitas in particular, the structure sits somewhere between a large tent, a small home or an outhouse and an open-ended piece of infrastructure which the gardeners can shape over time. Like many casitas, it is made of a variety of materials assembled together, including four custom-cast corrugated L-shaped concrete panels framing an oversized window. The remaining materials, all readily available at nearby home improvement and gardening supply stores echo similar qualities in their textured surfaces and arrangements.

This project was completed with the generous support of the Garden Conservancy, Elise Jaffe and Jeffrey Brown, and donations through our fiscal sponsor, The Architectural League of New York.

A small painting studio on 65 acres in the Green Mountains of Vermont overlooking a pastoral valley and surrounded by dense forest.The structure was designed and built in eight months, a quick project as an informal getaway. For the design, we looked to Vermont’s aggregate structures where barns, houses, and sheds all grow on and around each other, clustering, it almost seems, for warmth. Here, the studio is set off-angle from a two-story living area, maximizing orientations facing the surrounding landscape. In keeping with the efficient insulation strategy and in lieu of large window-walls, smaller square windows throughout frame moments of the landscape through considered picturesque tableaux. Custom details, deliberate asymmetries, and material contrasts appear throughout the design and introduce unexpected moments to a familiar language.

Recladding a modest house in Long Island helped to transform its interior spaces and circulation. 

For this residential project we worked with the clients to figure out how a few small moves–relocating the front and back doors, and moving several windows throughout both floors–could produce wider effects to the layout. The exterior doors now produce an effective breezeway through the house connecting the front and back patios. Inside, the layout gives more space to a dedicated living area, which previously functioned as an extension of the entryway, and clearer subdivisions between open and intimate living. 
Outside, a full reclad breaks the volume of the house into discrete components through a subtle play in texture: moving between color-matched shingle and plank siding augmented by a new wood deck. On the rear of the house a new stair to the ground floor and outdoor shower continue the home’s new massing, which is blocky and warm, punctuated by new and high-performing windows.

A house built into a hillside, oriented westward with views to the Green Mountains. The structure began as a research project looking into hybridizing industrial structural systems with a more traditional approach to wood-frame house building.By combining several different pre-fabricated and off-the-shelf systems, the architecture was conceived to be fast, cheap, and surprising. The structure itself includes different levels of insulation and privacy, from tightly packed insulated bedrooms to a large open living area to a semi-outdoor space.

The hybrid structure builds a dynamic relationship betweeen a permanent skeleton and a flexible body. Partitions are imagined in the medium term, like oversized furniture pieces that can adapt over time. Walls weave in and out of the permanent frame, which guides their organization around its pre-established grid. The result is a series of interactions between construction logics, and the materials that bind them.

This project reimagined the storefront of an Upper West Side cultural landmark by translating Yanni Posnakoff’s original 1970s paintings into mosaic panels that echo the spirit of the cafe as both wall and image.We were asked to replace the storefront of an Upper West Side cultural landmark, an institution for both the neighborhood and students at adjacent Columbia University. In addition to updating the design, we considered how to preserve the existing paintings by the painter Yanni Posnakoff that were originally installed in the 1970s. These paintings characterized both the facade and the spirit of the cafe, but were damaged and faded from time. For the project, translated them into mosaic tiled panels that would become the facade itself, a muraled surface that would do double-duty as both wall and image. We wanted to avoid reproducing the paintings, and instead abstracted key and recognizable components that we floated over color fields—an echo of the original, frozen into an architectural detail.
